Food sent to Arvind Kejriwal in jail different from prescribed diet: Court

"Court Scrutinizes Kejriwal's Jail Diet, Rules for Compliance with Medical Prescription

A Delhi court has expressed concern over discrepancies in the home-cooked meals provided to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal during his incarceration in Tihar jail. The court highlighted that items not prescribed by his physician were included in his food, raising questions about the adherence to his medical dietary guidelines.

Lack of Compliance with Prescribed Diet

Special Judge Kaveri Baweja, presiding over cases for the CBI and ED, noted that certain food items, such as potatoes, taro, and mangoes, were found in Kejriwal's meals despite not being part of the diet recommended by his doctor. The jail authorities were questioned about the rationale for allowing deviations from the medical prescription.

Allegations of Unhealthy Diet

The court's scrutiny stems from allegations raised by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) that Kejriwal, a diabetic, was consuming sugary foods like mangoes, aloo puri, and sweets to elevate his blood sugar levels and facilitate a request for medical bail.

Court's Directive for Adherence to Medical Diet

To ensure compliance with Kejriwal's prescribed diet, the court has directed that his home-cooked food strictly adhere to the plan outlined by an AIIMS medical board composed of senior endocrinologists and diabetologists. Until the board provides a specific diet plan, Kejriwal's family is obligated to follow the instructions prescribed by his personal physician and the court's earlier order from April 1, when he was initially remanded into judicial custody.

Ensuring Compliance in Tihar Jail

The Tihar jail authorities have been instructed to meticulously adhere to the prescribed diet, ensuring no deviations from the medically approved food items.

Insulin Administration Decision Pending

The court declined Kejriwal's request for daily video consultations with his family doctor, stating that his plea for insulin administration could not be solely based on his assertions. Given his hyperglycemia condition, the AIIMS medical board has been tasked with assessing the necessity of insulin administration. If necessary, the decision will be made jointly by jail authorities and the medical board.

AAP Concerns over Medical Neglect

The Chief Minister's Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has consistently alleged that Kejriwal is being denied insulin and subjected to a "slow death."

Kejriwal's Current Incarceration

Arvind Kejriwal is currently detained in Tihar jail following his arrest in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case."
