Food sent to Arvind Kejriwal in jail different from prescribed diet: Court

"Delhi Court Scrutinizes Food Provided to CM Kejriwal at Tihar Jail

A Delhi court has taken note of discrepancies between the diet prescribed by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's doctor and the meals provided to him in Tihar jail. Special Judge for CBI and ED cases Kaveri Baweja observed that the jail authorities have not adequately explained why items such as potatoes, taro root, and mangoes, which were not prescribed by Kejriwal's doctor, were included in his food.

This scrutiny follows allegations by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) that Kejriwal was consuming items like mangoes, aloo puri, and sweets to elevate his blood sugar levels as a means of seeking medical bail. The court, however, has dismissed Kejriwal's plea for daily video consultations with his family doctor.

The court has ruled that Kejriwal will continue to receive home-cooked food, but it must strictly adhere to a diet plan developed by an AIIMS medical board comprising senior endocrinologists and diabetologists. Until the medical board can provide the necessary plan, Kejriwal's family must follow the diet prescribed by his doctor as well as the court's directive since his initial remand on April 1.

The court also emphasized that the Tihar jail authorities must strictly enforce the prescribed diet and prevent any deviations.

Insulin Administration Rejected, Medical Board to Assess Need

Kejriwal's request to be administered insulin was denied, as the court deemed it insufficient to rely solely on his word that he suffers from hyperglycemia. The AIIMS medical board has been tasked with evaluating if insulin administration is warranted. If necessary, the jail authorities, in consultation with the medical board, will make the final decision.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has raised concerns that Kejriwal is being denied insulin and gradually being subjected to a "slow death."

Continued Detention and Investigation in Liquor Policy Case

Kejriwal remains in custody at Tihar jail following his arrest in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case. The investigation and trial are ongoing."
